Hi friends,
I am a mountain guide from Austria and starting from October I will be working at the JAIST (as mathematician which I am also) near Kanazawa, Ishikawa prefecture, for some years. As you can imagine I am an deep need of partners for skiing, ice climbing, rock climbing, every outdoor sport. Also information concerning indoor climing walls near Kanazawa would be nice. I am looking forward to any suggestion, and maybe to meet up sooner or later! All the best Norbert |

Ishikawa-ken is way too far from Tokyo for any kind of regular climbing together; but if you're in the Tokyo area any time, and interested in rock, drop me a note.
Hope you find some like-minded people near you. - Bill |

Sorry to see you haven't gotten more replies here.
Kanazawa is truly a beautiful city and a decent place to be if you're interested in the outdoors. Hakusan is just outside of Kanazawa and the Northern Alps aren't so far off either. During the winter months I'm based in Toyama Prefecture which is just next to Ishikawa. I manage to get out about once or twice a week to do some ski touring so if you're keen to meet up next winter just let me know. The season gets underway around mid-late November in the Tateyama area. Unfortunately, I don't get out much from April - early November due to work commitments, but if you'd like I can introduce you to a few (Japanese) friends who do quite a bit of summer hiking and sawa nobori. -Scott ps - not so sure about indoor rock climbing gyms in Kanazawa but there is one I know of in Johana town in Toyama Prefecture. It's just across the Ishikawa border so it may not be so far from Kanazawa. Tried to google it but nothing came up. May only have info in Japanese. |

Hi Scott! Sorry for the late reply, I was guiding clients around in the European Alps, we have perfect skitouring conditions here. I am on the Gemmi in Switzerland, 6 days of perfect weather and perfect conditions ;-) Great thanks for your offer, I will come back to you as soon as I am there. I will probably in the beginning not be able to get out during the week, new job at the university, you know. But the weekends and sometimes during the week should be fine, lets hope. For climbing -- and for the winter time ice climbing -- I am still searching, but I am getting more relaxed, seems that I will not stop mountaineering over there! Thanks and all the best Norbert |

Hey Norbert,
I'm living in Chino Nagano and I'm sure we could meet half way for some hiking sometime in the Central alps. I do know how to climb but I've never had gear of my own. Cheers Aaron |

Norbert,
Not sure if you're still checking this site, but if you are, I was just wondering if you're still planning to live/work in Kanazawa from next month. If so, try to reach me here if you want to meet up over the winter for some BC touring. Cheers, Scott |
