Hi!
I'm interested to hear peoples' opinions and experiences about localism in Japan? Have you ever been on the receiving end of a tirade from an ugly local?
I have and so have other mates of mine.
The perpetrator is always the same sad sack. If you don't frequent his shop and sport his colours, you're not in. It doesn't even matter if you wait your turn in the line-up.
Total loser. Roll Eyes

I haven't had that kind of shitty experience yet...in Chiba, anyway. Where do you surf?

Hi Reanne,
I surf in Tokushima, Shikoku. I should add that this guy is just one bad egg. Most of the surfers down here are cool, particularly the good surfers.
Be friendly, wait your turn and there are no problems Cool

Hola,
I surf right next to you Matt, actually was at shishikoui (prolly incorrect spelling) just the other day. I guess there is a little local attitude, but I:ve never really had to much problem with it. I think that classic dude you is givin you shit is the classic Jackass aroudn the world.
Say where do you usually surf? ANy good breaks farther north of Kiyfu? (sorry spelling suck)
Peace,
KLE

Hi KLE,
Good to hear from you. I guess you live 'down south'? I envy you. There are more waves down there (but less work). I live in Tokushima city. There are waves here when the swell isn't too small. Also north of Kaifu, there are waves in Yuki. The local problem I mentioned is there so be careful if you go. (And don't tell anyone I told you Wink)
Good surfing bro'!

Is that true? in Japan they actually wait in line for a wave...what happens if you bum the drop? is that your wave? how many people make up the que on average where you guys surf. In Oz you only get what you work for. most stick to rule of no snaking...well, theres always one, but almost always its just whoever is closest to the break.

meh, its a good thing then that Japanese guys arn't scary then ey.

True but then go to the same break twiceand theyll become your friends if they see you a second time. Always works. Localism only happens if you allow it to happen.
