Hey all -- just a heads-up that there is a movement afoot to move tomorrow afternoon's pickup to the scenic beaches of Chiba. I don't have all (or actually any) of the details but check back here later for more information when folks who are in the know are online.

Konbanwa~

Reiko has been kind enough to send a bunch of info to me about possible beach spots for tomorrow, all based along the kujukuri-hama area in Chiba (which literally translates as 99 miles of beach, see attached example shot courtesy of Reiko).

However, after checking out the locations in more detail just since we got home tonight, yappari they are pretty far from Tokyo. (From Tokyo stn on express train 1hr10min, but almost 3,000yen, on normal train 1hr35 and less expensive, but anyone travelling from the west side of the city you can add another 30min or son to factor in getting to Tokyo stn., and our friends who live down Yokohama way or past it's just a silly distance away...)

So I think for tomorrow, realistically, we have two options:
1. stick with pick-up in shinchi
OR
2. go to the beach in kanagawa like we did a couple of weekends ago, although we could have fun by the sea there is only a very slim chance that we could secure enough space to play pick-up, esp. with it being 3 day weekend.

If you intend to come out and play in the sun tomorrow, please reply to this post with your preferred plan/location, and we can see what the group's general consensus is.

Ta,

K xxx

I'm up for that- 3k is not too much to pay for a good beach, and 1hr 10mins is ok too. Besides, it's not 'regular' pickup, it's 3-day weekend pick-up, so a proper holiday location is fitting.

The beach does look nice!
But having a close to 3h trip to go to the beach and spending 1 man is a bit too much for me... I'd rather go to Enoshima.
And by the way AccuWeather is forecasting rain, at least on my computer.

senco has another suggestion of going to Kasai Kaihama Kouen (near disney land, so not as far as kujukuri), does anyone know anything abt this place? (aparently beach is part of the park.)

Hm, so 3k each way does seem a bit steep for an afternoon, but I could be game. It seems that if the beach by Disney is decent it'll be packed, ne?

i totally forgot that I have a plan for tomorrow morning. so if we're gonna go to the far beach, i won't go.

kasai kaihin koen looks like just a beach sorrounded by sea. we can't swim there. i've never been there and i don't have any details.

i'm in town for a few weeks and would love to get to play with all you fine people a couple of times if possible....but being an under-funded daigakusei, i would personally vote against the 6000 yen round trip. either the closer beach or just doing shinchi and investigating beach options for later would be fine for me i think, but i'll see you all at some point even if it's not today.

Ohayo!

Thanks to everyone who has posted so far.

I'm going to put my neck out and make a decision not to go to kujukurihama today - but I'd love to go there sometime this summer. If we're to make the trip all the way out there let's plan it properly in advance and maybe even make a weekend of it - find somewhere to camp overnight or something? But it's not the most inclusive option for today.

In line with Mike's "it's-a-three-day-weekend" comments, I still think going to the beach is a great idea! Today isn't just any normal Sunday! We're on hols tomorrow too!!

I'd like to suggest going down to Enoshima area. It'll be crowded but hey, we live in Japan, where's not crowded? This way it'll make it easier for all the West-siders and hopefully the daigakusei can shell out abt 900yen for the train fare (hey Niji, I'll buy you a kakegouri if you come out and play!) We can just do our best to make space.

The other weekend we went to Kugenuma-Kaigan - if anyone else has a better suggestion down that way please let us know the station name. How about we meet at a designated station at 1:30pm?

Again, if you're following this post, please let us know your thoughts and intentions for the weekend.

Summersummersummer!!! Funfunfun!!!

Sounds good to me, too.

Will there be swimming or are there too many surfboards there?
