I just moved to Okinawa and was hoping to find some regulars who play down here. I googled for ultimate frisbee okinawa but mainly found a lot of collegiate sites that were of no use. Does anyone know how to get in touch with any ultimate gathering here in Okinawa?

I too am greatly interested to find out all about regular ultimate play going on in Okinawa. I am not yet there but plan to move there in early January from one of the most "ultimate friendly" cities anywhere - Raleigh, NC (US), where I've been captain of 1 of the area's 3 men's club teams.

I'm already not looking forward to the withdrawal that I'm sure to suffer from a lack of competitive ultimate 3 times a week. But please let me find at least some recreational opportunities in Okinawa. I mean, I'll start something up, if I must, but an established core of players would be so nice to find!

I've found some regular Ultimate action at the local university in town (Kokusai Daigakku). The team there is young (both the members and the team itself) but active and serious. They are in Ginowan City, north of Naha.

I've heard that there is another team south of Naha. I believe that both teams travel to tournaments since there isn't much Ultimate happening in Okinawa.

Josh, where will you be living in Okinawa? By the way, Ultimate is called "Flying Disc" in Okinawa. If you talk about Frisbee, everyone will think that you're planning on throwing around with your dog.

Oh, that's GREAT that there are groups playing. I'm willing to travel to play, so that works for me!

I don't yet know where on the island we shall rent but it will likely be near a US base, since my wife will be contracting as a pediatric physical therapist in the DoD schools/hospitals. But we should be there in about a month & I'll figure the details out pretty quickly.

My email address is joshmurphy at gmail dot com, so feel free to send me any more info that way. See you on the field!

I live in Naha, and would like to play sometime. I have played only once previously, but if relative beginners are OK, let me know.

I'm also new to Okinawa and am interested in playing some ultimate. Is the college team co-ed or all male?
