We finally got around to camping here in japan. We left most of our camping gear in the US but brought enough with us to do a few low key camping trips.

With limited japanese - we picked well camp because it is close to yokohama and has some information in english...everything turned out fine.

A 2 hour drive from yokohama near Mt Tanzawa the camp is easy to get to...it is a huge camping facility- with 500+ campsites..to big for us BUT in late april there were maybe 50 other groups camping both with tents in and cabins so it worked out fine. Saturday it rained all afternoon/evening which limited our activities..but we were all just thrilled to be out of the city.

Most other campers appear to have rented tents, tarps, tables, BBQs- everything from well camp...must have cost them a fortune. After a nice dinner in the rain - we headed off to the family onsen. We had made a reservation so we had 30 minutes in a nice private outdoor onsen...a great addition to camping! we will miss that when we move back to the US.

Sunday after packing up we did a 4 mile hike into the hills near the campground..there were beautiful views of the hills and the many different types of trees that were blooming or leafing out in a variety of colors.

Sunday at about 4pm we headed home...caught a bit of traffic so the 70 km drive took us 3 hours..i dont think i will ever get use to how slow driving is in Japan..i miss driving 150km an hour in california!

Our first camping trip in japan wont be our last...just need to learn to read and speak japanese so we can find more/better/different places to camp near yokohama
