Hello there.

I have only just arrived in Yokohama - looks like I will be here for the foreseeable future.

I was wondering - are there any socialable groups I can join to hike in Japan on long trips + day hikes just outside of Yokohama? I usually prefer to do a 10+ mile hike on a weekend.

Are there any well known routes just outside Yokohama?

Any information would be great. Look forward to hearing from you.

Nick

Nick, I too live in Yokohama - been here 6 months and plan to stay a few years. Regarding hiking..kamakura has 10+ miles of trails with a variety of temples, etc. to see on the way. I am off to Okutama - west of tokyo on the 8th for 10+ mile hike. I havent been there before so it will be an adventure. Then there is Tanazawa Forest closer to Yokohama, I havent been their either! I would be happy to join you for one or more of these hikes..i will try and get out 1 or 2 times a month as my schedule allows.

Hi Nick,

Yes i did try and send you an email. Here is what I sent

Hi Nick, Sorry i missed your posting on the forum!

Anyway..Okutama turned out great..the day was clear and cool and everyone else got off the train to see the apricot trees so the trails were empty. We just did a short 10k hike along the lake.

I got a copy of

Day Walks Near Tokyo - by Gary Walters

I have done the first 2 hikes and they were as described..with the one exception that 30% of the trail of hike #2 along the coast was gone due to erosion..but it made the hike more fun having to climb up and over all the debris/rocks.

Anyway..again i am sorry about not giving you any contact information.

I may be out this sunday...the 6th. The 13th and 14th i will be up in "japan alps" then free again on the 20th and 21st.

Let me know if you would like to try again..i am sorry for not responding sooner.

thanks

Dan
