I am visiting in August and would like to go on a trek (3 to 5 days). Hokkaido hikes appears to not offer any trips during this time. Any alternate suggestions?

Thank you,

Kimberly

Bush Pig, do you ever do the Daisetsu Traverse in May? Can it be done with a lot of post-holing +/- crampons? Lots of snow still on the tenting sites?

I have done it a couple of times in May and it isn't for the inexperience. fullon winter alpine skill are needed, it is a must in may.

Daisetsu-Zan is still full winter condition with plenty of deep snow and ice around and temperatures at night still being around -15c .

You will need to take backcountry skies or snowshoes plus crampons and ice gear.
There usually no trails to follow because of the snow and knowing how to read map and use a compass is a must plus you would need about a week to do it and full on four season gear.
