Oil or Speed Cream for new bearings?

New Bearings should be all set for awhile but eventually speed cream is probably best to bring them back to life. I like Bones because you can take the shields off, clean them in some degreaser and lube them up. People often make the mistake of packing them too full. Just put enough lube in there to make spin easily.

Why is oil bad? In my experience it collects and holds the dust kind of defeating the purpose.

I want to get a green degreaser. Can you recommend one and where I can find it?

You can find de-greaser at any home center. The one near me even sells Simple Green.

You can also degrease bearings in almost any solvent like lighter fluid or gasoline. Just can't smoke and clean at the same time if that's your thing.

I heard:
1. remove shields and soak in solvent for 3-4 hrs.
2. wash in soap and water
3. dry
4. lube
that sound ok?

How'd those bearings turn out? Should have been alright with the approach you outlines here...

Okay but the water part wasn't good. Ended up repeating the process sans H2o.
Another thing, when I first got those bearings I made the mistake of removing a ball-bearing retainer and it never rolled the same again. I advise against removing them. I also advise against messing with the bearings at all until they absolutely need cleaning, seems they never roll as nice as they do with the factory coating.
