I've just ended a two year hiatus from riding with a nice new deck and Im planning to start mapping out the hilly regions in Aoba ku, yokohama (from Azamino to Aobadai on the Tokyu Denentoshi which is the same line as Hanzomon after it passes Shibuya). There is some REALLY nice riding around here, and I was hoping to make some nice maps that could go up on OJ, as well as the Edmonton local 124 map. My question is that since there is no link on the maps pages (looks like there was meant to be though) what should I do once I get one done? Just email the pics and descriptions to Adam?

In any case, you should all hop on the train and come out to Yokohama - so many hills - and let me know when you do: [davisjess at t dot vodafone dot ne dot jp]!

cheers,
Jesse

Hey Jesse,

Excellent! I did some skating around there awhile back and agree. Nice hills.

Just send the maps and details in the same format to adam@outdoorjapan.comand we'll put them up.

A couple of things happened. Biggest impact, some core members moved away. That and I got a new job that allows me to be around a lot more but is just insane until mid-june. Then I will be skating hard again. Now it is just cruizing with the dog and the occasional late evening push.

I'd say its time to get it rolling again. Sunday sessions and the whole nine.

By the way, I am moving to Yokohama next month from Tokyo. Sick hills out that way.

I may be able to do the 28th, but you guys are probably too hardcore for me. I dont even have a helmet yet! My parents get here tomorrow, so it will depend on what they want to do / their jet-lag.

btw sk8, where abouts in Yokohama?

and quick and dirty, I posted my first favorites on the local 124 map. I didn't really know what catagory to put them in so I chose slalom: if you bomb these straight or anything close to it you'd better have a drag chute.

Autobahn, no way...I thought you were around for awhile longer. I move house on Tuesday May 1st and at this stage have a lot of packing to do with electricians and plumbers all lined up for the weekend. Sorry we didn't put something together before because I am hopeless for another week.

So I checked out those maps and they look great. The format they are using is pretty slick.

For us, we basically want things bi-lingual or with serious English anchor points so people can find their way. Maybe it is because I am on a Japanese Operating System but the maps posted on that sight seem to be only in Japanese.

I have basically just snapped jpegs of the local map at train stations and put on the skate information in some other program. Powerpoint is really easy then save as jpeg.

yes well its google maps, so the only way to jump to a japanese address is to type it in in japanese. I run OSX in english but it still comes up in japanese. Google earth has an english name layer however... this week is busy but I will eventually map it out with a google earth screenshot so you can see the hill, maybe a big panorama for each hill like they have at ski resorts.

Tried skating with video running in my hand this morning, and it came out more as wwwwwwall.. road.. wwwwwwaalll! road.. wall! road.. wall! oh well better luck next time right.
