Hi folks,

does someone know if it is worth bringing tread gear to Japan?
Is there anyone who does tread climbing here?

Cheers Jon

hey jon-

I'm having the same debate with myself for my visit next month.

Short answer is that you don't need it, a dozen draws will get you up 90% of the routes in Japan, and there are very few areas that are strictly trad- these being mostly alpine routes, and even many of those have fixed pins and bolted anchors.

It depends on your level of committment to climbing on your own gear, I guess, or your interest in keeping the skills sharp.

Ogawayama and Yugawara both have some great cracks, but you will not find a shortage of fun bolted lines at either area or any of the other crags in Japan.

Good luck.

OK, packing and realized I can't help myself-

All 15 cams and both sets of stoppers, for a two-week trip, the main purpose of which is my wedding... Do I have a problem?

Am I a crack addict?

Maybe so. Oh, well- so be it.

Heh! Bryan, you're a sick puppy, no doubt about it.

Your advice is right on about the overall utility of trad gear over here, but there ARE some nice cracks. Casablanca is waiting for us at Ogawa right now...
