I`m thinking of starting a kayaking group that would meet maybe once a month in Mitake. I am a certified whitewater instructor with swiftwater rescue tech. liscense. You would need beginner skills (at least class II skills), but I would be willing to set up a small beginner class to get things started.

Before I did though, I wanted to test the water, see how many people might be interested. Show of hands?

Cheers,
Maya

Tentative yes for me.

I would love to find people to kayak with, but I don't have my own gear, which could make it difficult.

I'd definately be interested. I kayaked a bit back home in Canada and really miss it. I'm still a beginner and have no gear here.

Anytime someone is doing a beginner friendly trip I'd love a heads up.

Borrowing gear is not an issue. I know several shops that lend out gear for a nominal fee. Hmmmm....Im going to ask around a bit more, but Im thinking that this might be a go.

The price is tentative, but probably cost around 6000 to 7000 (for rental, snacks, etc).

I can only take two to three beginners down so if there is anyone with experience out there I would love for you to sign up. Also possible is arranging a sea kayak tour with my friends shop in Chiba. This would cost more, but the place is SWEEET.

So I am thinking of setting up an initial sea kayak tour with Saltys. This is a very good way for people with no experience to get into the sport and for beginners to work on balance and paddle strokes. I am checking into the prices, but it will probably be around 10,000. After one or two sea kayak tours I would like to do a little downriver -possibly toward the end of July, early August. All those interested please raise your right hand.

As for the price - eek! Some of us are poor students and that's a bit much, but I am looking around to try and buy my own second hand gear - if you are selling any, let me know.

I'm in the states untill August/September, but if you are arranging anything after that, let me know.

Sorry

Maya -

How did the trip go in early July? I am back in Japan after 3 months away climbing and want to get back kayaking again. Please let me know of future trips planned. I have my own sea kayak here (which I would consider selling to a dedicated / loving person as I may be leaving Japan within the next few months).
Thanks - Deno

Maya-

Just wondering if anything ever happened with getting a kayak group together. I'm back from the states, finnally ( Frowner) and really would like to find people to paddle with here... let me know if anyone has a trip planned please.

I mean, after it was such a pain in the butt to get my kayak back on the plane (who knew they don't allow you to check boats?) it would be a shame to not use it.

Hi there-

I too am very interested in doing some kayaking. I`ve just moved to Tokyo and will be here for at least a year. I brought all gear except boat and paddle, but am looking to get both. I`ve boated a decent amount, but would be satisfied with any class river just to be on the water again. If anyone gets together, please send an email. katie.d.hawkins@gmail.com

hi all,

I'm so happy that I found this forum. I just moved to Tokyo 2 weeks ago (late august) and would like to be able to go out kayaking somewhere near Tokyo. I will be here for the next 2 years. I'm an intermediate beginner in sea kayaking (star 2 from BCU). I don't have experience in whitewater kayaking (look scary) I didn't bring my equipments. If you plan to go out, I may ask my husband to bring me kayaking equipments (pfd, jackets and all small stuff) Plese let me know as my husband will be here early October. You can reach me at peibkk@gmail.com.

one BIIIIIG hand UP!!

My problem is gear, but I'm comfortable in class III (read: was, at a time, long ago) and I could help beginners get started out on the flatwater or in the tides cause I've much more experience in sea boats.

I am waiting on my Drivers license papers atm as well and have a (small) car that could be commandeered for the cause.

Hi, I would like to join kayaking group. I've done very little (almost 0) kayaking but always wanting to. So if someone can show me and get me start that would be helpful. I am into outdoor sports and have cycled from Tokyo to Fukuoka this summer. I hope to hear from you guys. My email is dpercyk@hotmail.com
