I'm new when it comes to being in Japan. I've been here exactly 3 weeks and I'm going to be here for the next 10 to 11 months. One of the first few things that I noticed since my arrival is how loud and crowded it is here in Tokyo. I'm from the US, and more specifically Oregon. If you've ever been to the North West you'd now how different Tokyo is from those quiet states. I'm interested in staying at some Minshuku, but I'm not exactly sure where I should go. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Raydeen, welcome to Tokyo. I'm from Oregon as well, went to school down in Eugene. Are you looking for a minshuku near Tokyo or some other area?

When you say you went to school in Eugene do you mean University of Oregon or you grew up in Eugene? I grew up in Eugene, that's why I ask. Anyways, I'm hoping to get outside of Tokyo and into some of the rural areas. My ultimate goal is to find a rural area and stay there for several weeks during my school's summer vacation.

I grew up in Portland (Lake Oswego) but went to college in Eugene at UofO. One place to check out is Minshuku Sosuke in Takayama (Gifu) really traditional town and the minshuku is over 100 years old - check it out in the Places to Stay section under Gifu - I think there is also a temple lodging in town you can ask them about as well.
