My favourite island and people who go there always go back...
Already more than 15 people signed up in 2 hours! Maybe we can get 30?

Lots of activities to do or just relax and enjoy the beautiful outdoor natural baths :-). You don't need anything special for this trip, and anyone can join. Look at the photos on the website.
Where onsen meets the ocean:

Night bath under the stars with a bottle of wine is one of our customs...

Shikinejima Basics:
Camping is free on grass by the beach.
Outdoor hot springs are open 24 hours and free.
Mountain bike rental 800en a day
Good fishing, hiking cycling, beaches, snorkeling, diving.
Tennis courts cheap and available.
Fish farm and sashimi made by ourselves.
Supermarkets near campsite
Almost forgot ... beer machine is open all n***t if you need it - thats a secret.

We have tents for people (no sleeping bag needed as it is warm) but there are rooms on the island that can be reserved on arrival. Cheapest rooms are 4,000en without meals and usually 6,500yen with meals.
Most of us will camp and have a BBQ at the campsite and beach.

Most people will leave Friday night on the overnight ferry - you can sleep comfortably. Most tickets are sold before the ferry leaves - no problem getting tickets.
I will post all details, maps and updates on the website calendar.
If you want to go contact me directly or through the website.

Cost
If you get the discount tickets the total ferry cost will be about 7,200yen (full price 10,200yen). Then you only need to pay for food and drinks on the island. People who use OCJ tents will have to pay 1,000en/night. Some members will bring extra tents as well.

Meeting Time and Place (Travel Details)
Ferry company homepage:http://www.tokaikisen.co.jp/. Timetables and fares included at the bottom of the email.

1. Friday night ferry from Tokyo, Takeshiba Sambashi (pier). It is 5 mins walk from Hamamatsucho station on the Yamanote line.
Ferry leaves 2300 and arrives Shikinejima next morning at 0830 and costs 5080yen one way.
Meet at 2100-2130 at the ticket office at Takeshiba pier and buy tickets. Look for a sign wit "OCJ".
How to get to Takeshiba Pier - see bottom of email and website calendar.

2. There is a fast jetfoil on Saturday but hard to get seats. This afternoon there were 10 seats available on the 0810 jetfoil direct to Shikinejima arriving 1130am and costs 9,320en.
You must call and reserve seats by yourself and pay on just before departure. The number to reserve/information is: 03-5472-9999

3. You can also go from Shimoda in Izu on Saturday morning at 0910am. Difficult to get here from Tokyo the same morning ... details at the bottom of this email.

!!!!! If you buy discount tickets for the ferry company at recycle ticket shops you can get about 35% off the ticket prices for ferry and jetfoil. They cost about 800yen each and can be used for 1 single trip.
Jetfoil will cost 6,060yen using discount ticket; ferry will cost only 3,302yen oneway.
How to get discount tickets - see bottom of email.

Things to Bring - You dont need much ...
Lunchbox/cup recommended and something to eat food with. Bring a small knife to help out with the cooking.
shopping is easy on the island - just need food for the ferry or buy in the restaurant.
Swimsuit for mixed outdoor bath and towel, toiletries etc (there are clean toilets and showers there).
Suncream, hat and insect repellent. Umbrella might be needed Monday - hopefully not.
500en mattress recommended for sleeping on if you camp. Can get these at most department stores.
Some warm clothes if you feel cold at night - no sleeping bag needed I think.
Maybe you want to try fishing, snorkelling or climbing?
I will bring a soccer ball probably.
Can someone bring playing cards for the ferry?

If possible, let me know you are coming. If you need a tent - you must tell me soon!
Keep my number and look for an OCJ sign at the ferry terminal.

Ferry Discount Tickets- How to get them.
Ticket is called "Toukaikisen Kabunushi Yutaiken"東海汽船株主優待券 valid until the end of September 2007.

With this ticket, you can get 35% discount on any 東海汽船 Tokaikisen ferry to the islands.

How to get to Takeshiba Pier
From Tokyo station direction on Yamanote line or Keihin Tohoku line, go to the back of the train. Get off at the back and take the exit down the steps. Go out of the ticket gate and turn right. Walk along the main street about 3 blocks and you will see the ferry terminal at the end.
There is a convenience store just before the ferry terminal across the road on the left and a drinks shop.
